UAKKA Health Committee

It is the mission of the UAKKA health committee to:

  1. Provide owners, breeders and fanciers of the canine breed known as the Alaskan Klee Kai, with a well-rounded and ever growing resource of accurate and reliable information pertaining to health issues which affect the Alaskan Klee Kai.
  2. Provide education on health matters including genetic health disorders prevalent in the Alaskan Klee Kai breed to all Alaskan Klee Kai owners.  The Committee shall keep abreast of new developments in the field of canine veterinary medicine and canine genetics affecting our Breed.  Likewise, to provide a source of information for veterinarians and health professionals to draw upon when treating the Alaskan Klee Kai for both the unique and common afflictions of the breed and thereby, improve the quality of life for both the dogs and those that love them.

GOALS

  • To create a “Health Page” on the UAKKA  website to include resources for both the AKK owner and veterinarian; with health related articles, references, and links to pertinent and appropriate websites.
  • To submit an informative and beneficial health-related article for publication in each issue of the UAKKA Newsletter and to encourage members to submit articles from their own AKK health related experiences.
  • To determine the best avenues for conducting comprehensive and/or specific health survey(s) and implement those surveys including surveys regarding the incidence and prevalence of genetic health diseases of the AKK.
  • To explore and implement CHIC designation for the AKK.
  • The establishment of an UAKKA Health Fund for health related expenses, research and other costs associated with the UAKKA Health Committee.
  • To seek out and investigate medical studies which would directly benefit the Alaskan Klee Kai Dog, and to recommend them to the Board of Directors.
  • To consider fund raising projects to raise money for specific health research and to assist in implementing those projects.
  • To hold pubic Health Clinics to support the genetic health of the AKK as well as other dogs.
  • To arrange speakers and seminars on health-related topics for presentation at upcoming dog events.
  • To at all times, keep the Health and Well Being, of our beloved breed at the forefront of everything we endeavor and accomplish.
